The Distance Between includes painting, mixed media, installation, and photography. These seven artists highlight contemporary issues whose work explores aspects that illustrate the idea of "distance" and its relationships between time, memory, place, materiality, and longing. The meaning of distance is often ambiguous in the work, leading the viewer to explore the content and experience new perspectives. Many of these artists provide a call to arms, seeking a resolution to existing challenges and offering an opportunity to contemplate these issues to reflect on where we are and want to be. The exhibit participants include Yolanda del Amo, residing in New York, NY; Kelsey Blacklock, residing in Indianapolis, IN; Mitch Eckert, residing in Louisville, KY; Margaret Hull, residing in Detroit, MI; Jackson Martin, residing in Asheville, NC; Jennifer Seo, residing in Spokane, WA; and Chunbo Zhang, residing in Schaumburg, IL. Giertz Gallery is a platform to exhibit art that reflects and explores society's cultural interests and concerns and serves as a learning laboratory for our students. Group exhibitions are an opportunity to bring art and ideas together and present them in an accessible, relevant, and meaningful way. Our exhibitions and programming strive to provide a variety of artistic expression and inspire thoughtful dialogue.
