Description

Human Resource Mastery Certificate Series

33 percent of small business owners report having either been threatened with or involved in a civil lawsuit in the last ten years, according to a recent survey by The Hartford. There is a substantial burden born by small businesses when it comes to civil litigation. 73 percent of businesses suffered because litigation is time consuming; 64 percent suffered because litigation is expensive; 61 percent felt more constrained in making business decisions generally; and 45 percent changed business practices in ways that do not benefit customers.

Most small businesses do not have a staff person that is solely responsible for Human Resource Management, and often times the person that does oversee HR tasks was chosen by default because they are "really good with people." This brand new program provides professionals with a course that ends in a Human Resource Mastery Certification. It allows employees to gain credentials, improve credibility and solidify their knowledge. The program also provides individuals who have been in the HR industry for many years a refresher course that would help them in preparing for the SPHR or PHR examination through HRCI.

This is a six week series, meeting twice a week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a 45 minute lunch. Sessions will include lectures, discussions and exercises that demonstrate the current trends and best practices in the industry. There will also be applications of each topic to the businesses of the participants. After major concepts are covered, there will be testing, which ultimately leads to the certification.

The Chamber aims to provide members with affordable and time sensitive opportunities, like this one, to improve your business operations. A similar, two-day, one topic seminar offered by the Society for Human Resource Management is a minimum of $1,000 plus travel and lodging expenses (meaning this six week series would comparably cost about $6,000 just for the seminars). This Human Resource Mastery Series is a great option for small business owners looking to get a wealth of knowledge at an affordable price, while also avoiding travel and lodging expenses by staying local.
