DESCRIPTION:Pharmacy technicians enjoy a rewarding career in the constantly growing and evolving field of health care and prescription medicine while maintaining a stable and straightforward work environment. \n\n\n\nLearn the fundamentals of becoming a pharmacy technician whiling gaining experience with drug classes\, basic physiology\, drug interactions\, IV therapy and daily pharmacy operations. These skill sets helps better prepare students for a variety of jobs in the field\, offering graduates a competitive advantage. \n\n\n\nAs a certified pharmacy technician\, you are the liaison between medical professionals\, doctors\, pharmacists\, insurance companies and patients. You will receive and verify prescriptions and prepare patient medication. \n\n\n\nBlending medicine\, math and chemistry\, you will take classes that prepare you to: \n\nProvide medication and other health products to patients \n\nMix intravenous solutions \n\nCount tablets and label bottles \n\nReceive electronic prescriptions from medical offices \n\nHandle computer order entry of prescriptions \n\nReceive written prescriptions and requests for patient refills \n\nVerify complete and accurate prescriptions \n\nStock and inventory prescription and over-the-counter medications \n\nAccording to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics\, employment of pharmacy technicians is expected to grow 9 percent nationally\, faster than the average for all occupations through the next 10 years.* Employment opportunities for pharmacy technicians are expected to be excellent due to increased needs within the pharmaceutical industry\, a larger and older population and a greater need for medication today. \n\n\n\nPrerequisites: \n\nMust be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or G.E.D. \n\nNo prior criminal background. Please note that employers will perform a background check on applicants. No felony or misdemeanor related to the sale of drugs. Traffic violations and any other issues must be cleared up before the externship and is the sole responsibility of each student. \n\nBe able to provide a history of vaccinations\, required to work at the externship site. \n\nMust be proficient in English and have adequate knowledge of 9th/10th grade algebra and arithmetic.
